Nineball Island is the residence and base of operations for L&L Diving Service, which serves as the hub stage of Endless Ocean 2.

The island is located in the Pelago Commonwealth in the South Pacific, close to Gatama Atoll and south of the Manoa Lai Sea.

In-Game[]

Notebook Description[]

Flora, Fauna, and Geography[]

Local Life[]

Nineball Island Dock (Title, Humpback)

A humpback whale breaching in the waters off of the island, as seen on the title screen.

Some of the game's randomized title screens suggest that species such as humpback whales, short-beaked common dolphins, brown boobies, and speckled butterflyfish can be seen in the area surrounding the island. However, no interactable creatures appear on the island during gameplay, aside from Snorkel and the blue bird.

Location and Geography[]

As noted in its various descriptions, Nineball Island is situated in the South Pacific, south of Rishu Island and the Kush Islands, both locations in the Pelago Commonwealth. It is also very close to Gatama Atoll; because of this, when travelling to Gatama Atoll from Nineball Island, or vice versa, an in-game day will not pass as it does when travelling to other stages.

While the island is relatively small and isolated, only 100 feet in diameter, it is described as having all the luxuries and essentials of a home. It is a tropical island with many palm trees and patches of grass dotted around, as well as some flourishing bushes.

Inhabitants[]

As the story progresses, more people will join L&L Diving Service, inhabiting the island. Each has a request type that they handle, once the ability to fulfill these requests has been unlocked.

Jean-Eric Louvier[]

Main article: Jean-Eric Louvier

Jean-Eric can be found in different places around Nineball Island depending on the current story progression, though his final position is standing on the dock. After completing chapter 2 in the main story, he handles photo requests.

Oceana Louvier[]

Main article: Oceana Louvier

Either found sitting on the dock or standing next to it depending on the current story progression, Oceana handles cartography. The player earns Pelagos based on the completion of maps, with the reward depending on how much each map has been filled in. Completing the map will earn the player an additional 10,000 P. This aspect of the game makes up the side-quest, "Young Entrepreneur."

After completing chapter 2 in the main story, Oceana also handles guided tour requests.

Hayako Sakurai[]

Main article: Hayako Sakurai

Hayako leisurely sits at a chair next to the table once she decides to join L&L. After beating Chapter 3 and training a dolphin partner to Level 2, she handles dolphin show requests.

Gaston Gray[]

Main article: Gaston Gray

Typically found standing on the sand next to the dock, once he has decided to join L&L. After beating Chapter 4 and completing the first two parts of the Pride of the Salvage King quest, GG handles salvage requests.

Snorkel[]

Main article: Snorkel

An adopted yellow labrador retriever found washed ashore in Gatama Atoll. Once he has been adopted by L&L, he can be pet at will. He also triggers the special request "Floating Island" when interacting with him when he is near the campfire.

Features[]

Nineball Island has many amenities that can be selected and used, most of which are unlocked at the start of the game.

Boat[]

Selecting the boat will open the world map, allowing the player to select a stage to travel to. With the exception of Gatama Atoll, traveling anywhere from Nineball Island, or returning to the island from anywhere, will take one in-game day.

Dolphin Bell[]

Dolphin Bell (In Use)

A player ringing the dolphin bell.

Selecting the dolphin bell will cause the player to ring the bell, used to call any given dolphin partner which has already been unlocked for training.

Certificate[]

Selecting the certificate hanging from a post on the table's shelter will allow the player to view their currently obtained titles, their records, as well as mix and match a unique title to assign to the player.

Cabin[]

Built by Jean-Eric, this cabin can be entered in order to sleep, allowing for the player to skip in-game time in increments of up to one day.

Change Gear []

Nineball Change Gear

The gear hanging on the wall of the cabin.

The wetsuit and gear hanging on the side of the cabin can be selected to change the player's gear. This gear is purely cosmetic, as only gear upgrades purchased from Nancy and the current diving conditions will affect performance.

Wi-Fi Connection Gate[]

Selecting the gate on the dock will allow the player to use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to online, and dive with friends who have been registered via friend code. This feature has been unavailable since 2014, due to the shutdown of the Wii's official online servers.

Shower[]

Selecting the barrels behind the cabin will allow the player to take a shower, as long as they have either swim trunks or a bikini currently equipped. This serves little purpose, though does pause the passage of time on the island.

Table[]

Focusing on the table will give the player several more options to choose from, similar to the cabin of Endless Ocean's Gabbiano. These options are:

R4E 0137
  • Notebook: Chronicles and describes in-game information, including gameplay tips, tutorials, quest details, as well as character and location descriptions.
  • Marine Encyclopedia: Records information and trivia about marine life that has been focused on at least once. After beating the main storyline, selecting the silhouette of a creature that has not yet been added to the encyclopedia will show the player a map of its location.
  • Collection: Records collected salvages and constellation coins.
  • Radio: Used to call Nancy to bring her to the island. Once she has been summoned, she can sell items, appraise salvages, and give haircuts. The radio also plays a minor role in the Voice of the Night Sky quest, as the source of the mysterious voice.
  • Camera: Used to develop and save photos to the album, as well an to an SD Card. Photos can be developed with different filters after unlocking them from the "Fragments of Memory" quest. Undeveloped photo data in the camera will be lost upon exiting the game.
  • Album: Used to view photos saved from the camera. Photos saved here can be used to fulfill photo requests.
  • Dive Log: Used to save the game.

Unlockable Amenities[]

Several additional items are unlocked for Nineball Island as the main story progresses, which can be purchased from Nancy's shop. These are:

  • Classic Guitar: Upon purchasing this item, selecting the guitar will trigger the "Memento" special request. After this request has been completed, the player can play the guitar at any time, playing Nineball Island's night music.
Totem Pole

The totem pole on Nineball Island.

  • Telescope: This item can be interacted with to spot various far-away objects of interest. When used at night, it can be used to determine the moon's current phase. Viewing it during certain days or nights is required to discover the Black Harbinger and Pelago Crocodile. Optionally, it can be used to find Snorkel.
  • Totem Pole: A purely decorative item. Interacting with it unlocks the "Mysterious Voice" quest.
  • Hammock: Using this item speeds up the passage of time, as the player lies in it.
  • Deck chair: Using this item slows the passage of time. Sitting in the chair at night can cause fireworks to appear in the sky.
Campfire Sunset Lonely

A player contemplating by the campfire with Snorkel.

  • Campfire: Only usable at night, lighting a fire will allow the player to sit by it and think, being one of the few places in the game in which the player's inner monologue can be read. If Snorkel has been adopted, he will join the player by the fire. When used close to sunrise, it triggers an alternate version of the game's end credits, along with "The Soft Goodbye." These credits show Nineball Island at various angles, as well as one of the dive partners and an animal found in Gatama Atoll, joining the player:
  • Jukebox: Changes the background music to any of the game's Celtic Woman songs. The tracks can be played during dives, but they stop playing when the player triggers certain parts of quests or returns to Nineball Island.

Notes[]

  • The gear hanging up on the side of the cabin on Nineball Island is not obtainable in game. The wetsuit and fins specifically are unused beta gear designs from Endless Ocean.
    • These exact fins can also be seen aboard the Gabbiano, though they are colored yellow.
  • The blue cans found on the table read "Nancy Drink" when viewed closely.
    • These same cans have a different name in the Japanese release, as they are labelled "Nancy Beer". This was likely changed to avoid referencing alcohol.
