Role in L&L Diving Service[]

Once GG has joined L&L, the player can speak to him on Nineball Island to accept salvage requests from clients.

When diving with GG, the player gains five more slots to hold salvages in their bag. Additionally, when spoken to during a dive, he will reveal how many salvageable items are within 100 feet of the player's current position, as well as say how many new salvages are left to be discovered in the current area, a helpful ability for those looking to complete their Collection.

Plot Relevance[]

GG

GG was once part of a salvaging company with his best friend. One night, the two had heard about rumors of the Pacifica Treasure and had sworn to find it one day. But before that could happen, his friend got severely injured in a diving accident and remains in a coma to this day. His friend's family didn't have enough money to pay for treatment, so GG decided to do freelance salvaging to help them out, with his fame being merely the byproduct of all the "crazy stunts" he had to pull off to earn enough money to completely cover his friend's medical costs. He had also sworn to find the Pacifica Treasure on the behalf of his friend.

GG first met Oceana, Jean-Eric (who seems to recognize him), and the player while they were exploring Ciceros Strait, immediately unnerving them with his smug attitude. He was convinced that the Pacifica Treasure was located there, and was determined to find it before they did, even to the point of betting on it, with the stipulation being that he would clean the bottom of L&L Diving Service's boat with his toothbrush, to which Oceana agreed. He was seen again shortly after the player discovered the Triton Village Ruins, only to quickly swim away once he sensed Thanatos' presence, ultimately forfeiting the bet he'd made earlier.

GG was not seen again until one morning, when he somehow showed up at Nineball Island unannounced (much to the ire of Jean-Eric), having heard about the progress the company had made since they last spoke. He explains that he is following a lead to the Cortica River in his ongoing search for the treasure, and enlists L&L's help, to which they reluctantly agree. He helps the player explore the river and uncover the Twilight Temple, and remains a permanent member of L&L Diving Service, helping them explore the Zahhab Region Depths, uncover the Cavern of the Gods, and discover (but not take) the Pacifica Treasure.

During the events of the "Pride of the Salvage King" quest, which unlocks after the main storyline is completed, he reveals that he and his former salvaging partner were intent on finding the Spartan Treasure, before his injury put their efforts on hold indefinitely. He expresses his desire to find the Spartan Treasure to give to his former partner's family, and informs the player that FF is the younger brother of said partner, with whom he shares a somewhat tense relationship as a result of the accident.

Personality[]

GG has a very flamboyant, gaudy, and at times arrogant personality. He comes off as very full of himself when Oceana and the player first meet him, but later proves himself to be a helpful ally upon joining the team. He wears a lot of jewelry and dives in a elaborately patterned wetsuit. He gives the player sensationalized titles such as "Midnight Asteroid" for their work. In every localization of the game except North American English, he believes "G" to be a lucky letter, using words starting with "G" wherever possible, which are highlighted in orange to denote the importance he places on them.

He has a noted love of treasure, and gold specifically, as is seen when he notices the player wearing the Servant's Ring after picking it up in Valka Castle. He is able to determine the history behind said ring just by looking at it, indicative of a vast knowledge on treasure appraisal.

He likes to "jokingly" flirt with Hayako.

Notes[]

  • Not including other divers on guided tours, GG is the only available male diving partner, as Jean-Eric is unable to dive.
  • Depending on which translation of the game is being played, GG's motivation for finding the Pacifica Treasure changes. In standard English and Japanese, for example, after explaining his desire to find the treasure because of his friend, he tells the player he was "just kidding", and his only real motivation is the money and notoriety.
    • Despite this inconsistency, the fact that GG's friend is in the hospital and he has been paying his medical costs remains the same throughout all translations, as is seen in the "Pride of the Salvage King" quest. Therefore, his decision to tell the player he was only joking about the Pacifica Treasure story could simply be an attempt by him to keep up his cool-guy persona after expressing emotional vulnerability, rather than a difference in backstory between translations.
