Diving Info: Rock Land

Rock Land

- A Labyrinth of Water and Stone
From the reefs around Manaurai, dive deeper and a vast labyrinth of rock formations will appear...

Over aeons, natural erosion has created countless caves which make perfect boltholes for all manner of large marine life. So investigate Rock Land to add a dash of the excitement of potholing to your dive.

- A Perfect Spot for Shark-Watching
By day, sharks hide in secluded caves, but when night falls they emerge to hunt for prey. It makes an ideal spot for observing sharks in their natural habitat.

Flora, Fauna, and Geography[]

Local Life[]

A large, maze-like area, Rock Bluff is home to the usual small species of fish, like sailfin tang and longnose butterflyfish. However, some larger and/or rarer sea life lives here as well, including scalloped hammerheads, bowmouth guitarfish, Japanese bullhead sharks and olive flounders. The humpback whale can be seen patrolling an area close by, slightly to the west.

Location and Geography[]

Rock Bluff can be found in northern Manoa Lai. On the player's map, the marker that denotes its location can be found at coordinates H-3/4.

To the east, the player can find Triple Steps. Tanganua Bay lies further to the north, and continuing far west and slightly north of Rock Bluff will eventually lead the player to Green Garden. Continuing extremely far to the west, past the entrance to Green Garden, will put the player right at the edge of the Great Drop-off.

Landmarks[]

Gallery of Souls[]

The Gallery of Souls is a small, narrow hallway of rock located to the west. Within it, the player can find the Cassette Tape and, later on in the game, the Ancient Bracelet.

Spirit House[]

The Spirit House, called the Den of Spirits in the European release of the game, is a small cave found to the north. The player can find a piece of the Storyboard here.

Notes[]

Affected rock formations in Rock Bluff

The rock formations in Rock Bluff that have invisible collision underneath (shown here in red).

  • Some of Rock Bluff's formations contain an invisible sand collision plane underneath them, similar to the sand around but without texture.
    • The collision plane permits zoom-mode glow generation, and the ones which appear here are normally impossible to reach.
    • Swimming against the collision plane creates sand particles.
  • If using an out-of-bounds glitch, like Marine Lake's in the Japanese versions, or the spring sperm whales in the other versions, it is possible to get inside of the formations by snapping above the collision plane from underneath.
